The Maine Coon is a natural breed and little is known of the origins. There are a number of legends but he is definately not a cross of a cat and a racoon.  The breed were used as mousers on ships and farms and retain the hunting instinct. Full GCCF recognition was gained in 1993.

Maine Coons whilst affectionate are not 'needy'.  They are playful throughout their lives and can be taught to play fetch and walk on a lead.

To keep his coat in top condiiton he will need weekly grooming.
