Known health issues - pyruvate kinase deficiency which can be screened for. Prospective buyers should ask the breeder if the cat has been tested

The Somali is known as he cat wth a smiling face.  There have always been the long hair gene present in the Abyssian breed but it wasn't until the 1960's that they were breed specifically. There is also a short hair Somali that gained championship status in 2014 but is shown in the semi long haired section.

They are a very affectionate and playful cat. Ideally they need access to outside space but will adapt to living inside provide they have plenty of toys and scratch posts to keep them occupied.

There coat does require a weekly groom but is easier to maintain than others.
